In Celebration of The Beatles: Rock Band

Posted on September 14th, 2009
by Harms

I don’t know if you know this, but I was raised on the music of the Beatles. So I was stoked when I heard about the Rock Band Beatles game. But then I started to think about the influence the Beatles have had on all forms of music. Which leads me to another band I’m quite fond of… Type O Negative. They are also fans of the Beatles, and their interpretations of Beatles songs may be hit or miss, but I enjoy them regardless and thought I would share them with you fine folks.

Festival Kinetik 2.0 - Montreal Will Be Amazing

Posted on April 29th, 2009
by Su

festival_kinetik_2009I type this with gleeful fingers because we got it on lockdown. Actually, it was on lockdown a few weeks ago but now it’s official. I drool over the Festival Kinetik each year and itch to get tickets. I normally just sigh and click away but Luis so kindly told me that we are going for Phase II of the fest. Festival Kinetik is Montreal’s Electro-Industrial-Noize Festival and there really isn’t much going on these coasts especially since I’m pretty sure the one held in Rhode Island is now defunct. Correct me if I’m wrong. This is as close to Wave Gotic-Treffen as North America will get. This four day festival usually takes place the weekend after my birthday, May 14th – 17th (four day fest if you can’t count). I’d love to go for all four but I guess I can get away with just one Phase for now even though I’d really really love to see Icon of Coil since I haven’t yet. Still, I think Luis and I will be catching the most crucial (for us) part of the fest. The following is a line up of the fest and if you’re interested, visit the official site for more info.

Phase 1:  Soiree/EBM/Industrial/Noise

A Week of Ninecents Music: God Module

Posted on December 8th, 2008
by Tommy

It’s not hip-hop, it’s electro.

Actually, they’re aggrotech.

They were formed in Florida around the 90’s. And they’re so awesome, it looks like their official webpage was made in the 90’s and hasn’t changed. All it needs is some animated gifs and a webring.

A Week of Ninecents Music: Bella Morte

Posted on November 10th, 2008
by Tommy

Bella Morte is a goth band from the south. Yep, that’s right; they’re from Virginia, and for some reason you can’t really get more south than that.

Just ask their guitarist, Tony:

“Y’all want some taco bell for breakfast?”

Drawback ran into Tony’s other band, Riot Act, while on tour a couple years ago. He also introduced us to his other band, The 40 Boys. But I digress.

I’ve seen Bella Morte live once. It’s not my kind of music, but it IS very interesting to see the…colorful characters these shows attract. That in itself is another kind of show.

….but then again, I saw them during some type of festival where they had a bunch of fashion shows. People were dressed up in gas masks, quasi-futuristic clothing, and giant shoes. So I guess everything else is pretty tame in comparison.

Anyways, here’s their official site, MySpace, and last.fm page. On to the videos:

A Week of Ninecents Music: Cyanotic

Posted on November 2nd, 2008
by Tommy

Cyanotic is a relatively new industrial rock band from Chicago. Although they formed around 2002, they have released multiple albums and have been a part of many compilations. They have been known to mix in other styles in with their music, such as drum & bass or metal.

Here’s their Official Site, MySpace site, and last.fm site.

Fun fact: cyanotic or cyanosis is the process in which the skin gives a blue coloration due to lack of oxygen.

On that note, here are some music videos:

A Week of Ninecents Music: Combichrist

Posted on October 6th, 2008
by Tommy

I’m going to be honest: I’ve never heard of Combichrist. I’ve never even heard of the genre they fall under - “aggrotech”. It sounds like some type of high-tech version of the Aggro Crag. But after researching it a little, I was disappointedly wrong. Apparently, aggrotech is a sub-genre of industrial music that’s more harsher, distorted, and/or aggressive.

Anyways, here’s their MySpace page, official site, and last.fm page.  According to the last.fm page, the top tracks are “Get Your Body Beat”, “Blut Royale”, “Electrohead”, “Enjoy the Abuse”, and “Without Emotions”.

And with that, here are some music videos:

A Week of Ninecents Music: Suicide Commando

Posted on September 22nd, 2008
by Tommy

Suicide Commando is an Electronic Body Music (EBM) band from Belgium. The band was started by Johan Van Roy (the only member) around 1986, although the band’s first album was not released until 1994 (”Critical Stage”). They still play now according to their MySpace page, which lists some shows going on in Europe in the near future.  He’s been doing this for over 20 years, so it’s pretty impressive.  Feel free to listen to some of the music on MySpace, or if you can’t access that, the last.fm page has the following top listened to tracks:

“Acid Bath”
“Desire”
“Dein Herz, Meine Ger”
“Better Off Dead”
“Pesticide”
